As I pulled up to it one day I actually saw the Dutch school children cleaning the memorial. Unbelievable!! It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. This is especially important to me, because I've busied myself for years teaching people that "you can learn about peace, if you know what it means to be at war". We recently made a documentary about the 2nd World War, which includes a report on the Waalcrossing. Until now only a Dutch version was available. We just made an English version. My Uncle made the crossing but died four days later, on Sunday, September 24th. I don't know if he was wounded on Wednesday but my understanding is that he was on his way to a religious service in a field when he was shot by German snipers. He had been sports editor of the St. Louis University High School publication Prep News and a Golden Gloves contestant. He planned on becoming a priest. Thank you. What a wonderful tribute.
