I have been to the Waal crossing memorial several times but one time stands out. As I pulled up to it one day I actually saw the Dutch school children cleaning the memorial. Unbelievable!! It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. Many thanks to the mayor of Nijmegen for his tribute.

Hooah!! Go ARMY

What a wonderful tribute. It is good to continue to see those who appreciated all that LTC Megella and his comrades did.

Yes, I think it is very special that the mayor from Nijmegen recorded this video message, It is good to see prominent civil servants deliver this kind of message to the media, for all people must know that war is terrible.
This is especially important to me, because I've busied myself for years teaching people that "you can learn about peace, if you know what it means to be at war".

We recently made a documentary about the 2nd World War, which includes a report on the Waalcrossing.
Until now only a Dutch version was available. We just made an English version. You can watch the movie at

http://www.webuitzendingen.nl/video/JDub/LH_jd01.htm

Finally let me express my gratitude to you and your wife, for allowing for us to meet and
talk about past times..

Kind regards,

LTC Megellas

Thank you for posting this video it was powerfully moving. Your service to this country will never be paid back, and yet you still serve as one of the finest examples of American heritage. I will honor you by teaching my new baby boy Everett of great men such as yourself as he grows.

Thank you,

What a wonderful tribute. My Uncle made the crossing but died four days later, on Sunday, September 24th. I don't know if he was wounded on Wednesday but my understanding is that he was on his way to a religious service in a field when he was shot by German snipers. He had been sports editor of the St. Louis University High School publication Prep News and a Golden Gloves contestant. He planned on becoming a priest. Thank you.
